Family Edition x South Side Community Art Center

For our annual event D-Composed Gives Family Edition, we partnered with the historic South Side Community Art Center.

Welcoming guests from the Bronzeville community were uplifting songs performed by Caitlin Edwards on the center’s stoop.

Once the program began, children and their families were invited into the Dr. Margaret Burroughs Gallery to listen to songs of empowerment by modern and contemporary composers such as Nina Simone, Kirk Franklin, Lil Nas X, and our cellist, Tahirah Whittington.

The string quartet for the duration of the program included Caitlin Edwards on violin, Khelsey Zarraga on violin, Wilfred Farquharson on viola, and Tahirah Whittington on cello.

It was a monumental event as the quartet performed in the same space that was once frequented by Nat King Cole, Gordon Parks, and Margaret Burroughs.
